profit vs lost

sometimes i feel myself quiet stupid i think when most people encounter the situation like me, they will choose to profit but i choose lost 1 of my friends had advice me not to be too kind hearted he said we must act cruel in order to achieve what we want but i have no the afford to do it so i gave up 'profit' not only my friend, even my parents ask why i will make a stupid choice i alway ask myself isn't i too care about others feeling? make me unwilling to hurt them i wonder why i can't be selfish abit?? hope i can find some 'profit' in the 'lost'...
